Language Test telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule Officially Recognized as Evidence of Linguistic Aptitude for Foreign Prospective Students

Foreign students must provide evicence of sufficient language skills in order to study at a German higher-education institution. From now on, they can do this not only with TestDaF or DSH, but also with the telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule exam (“telc German C1 higher education”).
The German Rectors’ Conference and the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany have officially recognized the telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule exam as proof of linguistic aptitude for university applicants.
A new framework regulating German language exams for higher education in Germany exempts foreign prospective students from providing evidence of linguistic aptitude if they can present a certificate of a successfully completed telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule exam. The new framework, effective February 2016, is legally binding on all German higher-education institutions.
Thus, the telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule exam can be considered equivalent to the TestDaF and DSH exams. Nonetheless, F+U recommends all foreign prospective students to enquire about which language exams are being accepted by the higher-education institution they wish to apply at before taking any language exam. F+U Academy of Languages will be happy to help if any questions arise.
F+U Academy of Languages Heidelberg has been a licensed telc test centre for many years. The telc Deutsch C1 Hochschule exam can be taken every month. Additional test dates can be offered upon request.

Learn more about test dates, registration deadlines, fees and results announcements in this flyer.

Inauguration of F+U Educational Campus at Heidelberg Main Station

On March 12, 2016, the new Educational Campus of the F+U group of companies was officially inaugurated in the presence of Heidelberg’s Lord Mayor Dr. Eckart Würzner.
Centrally located near Heidelberg Main Station and 7,300 m² in size, the new F+U Educational Campus is an additional highlight in Heidelberg as a centre of science and research.
Attended to by 500 teachers and employees, the Campus will serve ca. 1,200 people on a daily basis, who will attend school, study, continue their education or train in one of the many professions offered by F+U group of companies.
It was the first time that the public had the opportunity to visit the Campus, and the schools belonging to the F+U group of companies took the opportunity to present themselves at info booths and with activities for young and old. Visitors were able to enjoy a cup of Japanese tea and try their skills in Chinese calligraphy at the Academy of Languages’s stall.
While F+U Academy of Languages will continue in its premises in Heidelberg’s old city near the famous castle and the university, our students have the opportunity to book one of the high-quality, state-of-the-art apartments in the new “F+U Campus” belonging to the F+U Educational Campus.

Studying German, Getting to Know German Culture: Mexican High School Students Spend a Semester at F+U Academy of Languages

Since January, 84 Mexican high school students between the ages of 16 and 18 have been attending German courses at the F+U Academy of Languages. Of these, 20 attend classes in Berlin, and 64 in Heidelberg.

The German course has a duration of four months and is part of a cooperative project between F+U Academy of Languages and Mexican education provider Instituto Tecnológico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey which has been started many years ago. During their four-month stay in Heidelberg and Berlin, students attend German classes in the mornings and regular classes according to their Mexican curriculum in the afternoon, taught by six Mexican teachers accompanying the teenagers. Courses are being complemented by a diverse activities programme organized by F+U Academy of Languages including trips to nearby cities such as Strasbourg, Frankfurt, Dresden or Prague.
Every summer, a second group of Mexican students comes to Germany for four weeks to complete a similar, though shorter, programme.
Most of the Mexican students have been learning German in school in Mexico. “Many of our students plan to study engineering, mechatronics or similar courses of study after graduation, and the best place to do that is Germany,” says accompanying teacher Adalberto Pérez Peña. “If they learn German now, it will be much easier for them to access the German higher-education system later.” Some students have additional, more personal motives for studying the language: some of them have German ancestors, who immigrated to Mexico generations ago.
During their stay, the students are accommodated in host families who provide them with the opportunity to not just practice their German language skills, but also to get to know better German culture and lifestyle. Moreover, a part of the summer group will be accommodated in our newly-built “Campus” hall of residence in Heidelberg.
Every year, numerous groups from diverse countries visit the schools belonging to F+U Academy of Languages in order to study German and learn more about German culture. Learn more about our group packages here.

Japanese Tea Ceremony in Heidelberg

Since March, F+U Academy of Languages has been offering traditional Japanese tea ceremonies in regular sessions.

Instructed by a certified tea ceremony teacher, participants may learn the basics of the Japanese tea ceremony and make Matcha tea by themselves. Thus, they can experience close-up a centuries-old Japanese tradition.
The tea ceremony sessions, which take place every two weeks, are only one of the many events organized by the F+U Academy of Languages’s Japan Centre. Apart from the tea ceremony, the Japan Centre offers a monthly Japan Seminar and, as a special highlight, a yearly Japan Week including workshops about Japanese traditions and culinary specialties. Moreover, Japanese and German F+U students can get together and practice their language skills in a Facebook tandem group set up specifically for them.
